COP30, held in November was dubbed the “Implementation COP” for its focus on converting commitments into real-world results.

The summit achieved a breakthrough by agreeing to triple finance for climate adaptation, supporting vulnerable communities and ecosystems. Key initiatives launched included the Global Implementation Accelerator and the Belém Mission to 1.5°C, designed to strengthen national climate plans. Indigenous rights were formally acknowledged, and multilateral cooperation was emphasised, with over 56,000 participants, from world leaders to civil society, working toward solutions.

However, progress was mixed. Efforts to phase out fossil fuels fell short, and deforestation remained unresolved, prompting the BBC to call COP30 “the COP of truth.” While notable steps were taken, the summit highlighted the complexity of global climate negotiations and the urgency for stronger action ahead of COP31.
