Over the summer, Rebecca and Louisa visited the first cohort of Suffolk schools to review how they were

embedding the Our Schools Our World programme into school life and their communities.

These meetings highlighted impressive initiatives already underway—vegetable gardens, sensory spaces, partnerships with local sustainability organisations, and strong recycling systems—all aligned with programme goals.

Schools also shared future plans, including greening the curriculum, introducing termly sustainability themes, and improving operational practices. Feedback was overwhelmingly positive: staff training has gone smoothly, and enthusiasm from pupils and communities is high. Subsequent reviews with the second cohort added creative ideas such as enhancing outdoor spaces and deepening children’s connection to nature. As the new year begins, accreditation and case study collection are next steps.

Try This in Your Classroom:
Invite pupils to design a biodiversity zone or sensory garden for the school grounds. Alternatively, use creative writing to imagine “A Day in a Sustainable School,” helping students visualise and articulate what an eco-friendly future could look like.
